| As of now, hit-logging and the visit-counter have been disabled on all public and intranet sites. Every site has been individually tested and all appear to be working normally - but a lot faster! Please let us know if you have any problems. I’d been aware for some time that all the sites seemed to be slowing down, and had already disable hit-counting on my personal website, www.paul-marsden.com to discover if this was the source of the slowdown. The problem was that, with your sites receiving so much traffic, the logging system had just become overloaded. The database for this function had gown to more than 100MB, and this, combined with the quantity of traffic generated by your site hits, was bringing the database server almost to a standstill. A more manageable system would require a complete re-design of this section of the package, and we’re awaiting feedback from clients on how useful a new system would be. So please let us have your views on this. Once again, sincere apologies for what was fortunately quite a brief interruption to the working of your sites - only one practice reported problems, and by then we’d already started remedying it. |
