| Following this paragraph in my update email of the 21 February… “On document management (for both intranet and Internet sites) there is now a trap which is triggered if you try to upload a document with the same name as one already on your system. This will be developed so that, if you decide to over-write the existing one, the old one will be renamed by adding a timestamp to the end of its filename; you will then be able to retrieve earlier versions to track changes. If you use MS Office’s ‘Track Changes’ function, this provides a system for checking who has changed a document and when.” …I’m glad to say that the most difficult part of document management is now in place. If you upload a duplicate of an existing document, it is ‘shunted into a siding’ while you decide whether you want it to replace the existing on or to go back, rename your original and install it as a separate document. If you choose the first option, the original document is renamed as described above, except that it gets both a timestamp and the ID of the user who replaced it added to its filename. This applies to both Internet and intranet sites. I’ve also just installed the latest version of the ‘Editize’ web-page editor. It looks fine to me, but please let me know if you run into any problems. |
