| We are delighted to welcome Wilson Street Surgery, Derby (http://www.wilsonstreetsurgery.co.uk/), to Sites4Doctors. Sam Woodings, IT & Information Officer, is looking after their site. This is the first practice to ask for email boxes on the Sites4Doctors system; these are needed for functions such as repeat-prescription ordering because the practice team all use individual ‘name@nhs.net’ addresses for personal email. These have been provided at no extra cost, including a ‘catchall’ box that will capture all other mail sent to ‘@wilsonstreetsurgery.co.uk’, regardless of what is in front of the ‘@’. It is also the first to have an intranet, which is now active (but password-protected) at http://intranet.wilsonstreetsurgery.co.uk. We are grateful to Sam for her hard work in helping us to fine-tune the intranet specification. As well as password protection, the system allows users and folders to be given any of five security/access levels. A folder is only accessible to users with the same or a higher security level, and - to avoid offending people - the buttons for higher-level folders are not even seen by users with a lower level. Charnwood Surgery, Derby (http://www.charnwood-surgery.co.uk/) has also opted for an intranet. Thanks to Hayley Winfield for her contributions to the development. The cost of an intranet is just half of that for an Internet website: £100 setup (less any LMC discount) and £125 per year hosting sand support. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you want information on either of these services. Finally, Sukhi Ghattaora, Practice Manager at Sunrise Medical Practice, Nottingham (http://www.sunrisemedicalpractice.co.uk/), has asked for some changes to the Surgery details information on her site. The first would only affect practices with more than one surgery, and would mean that clicking this button took users to a page with only minimal details of all surgeries, so that these would all be visible on the screen without scrolling. There would then be a link to a separate page of full details for each surgery. This is being worked on, so if you have any thoughts please let me know. Sukhi has also pointed out that Surgery details may not be the obvious link for some users looking for contact and location information or for opening hours. We therefore propose to add Contact us and Opening hours buttons, both pointing to the same page as Surgery details. As usual you will be able to switch each of these on and off in the Site Management System. Again, any thoughts and suggestions will be welcomed! |
